Imo State has a documented history of rubber cultivation and plantation development. According to an RMRDC report on the Investment Forum on the Development and Rehabilitation of the Rubber Value Chain in Imo State, rubber production in Imo dates back to 1961.

Proceedings from the 2025 Investment Forum further reported that Imo Rubber Estate Limited operates across three locations covering over 3,819 hectares, with additional privately owned plantations reported in the state.
